Imaginators Crash vs Academy Crash

Okay, let's talk about the controversy of Crash Bandicoot having an appearance in Skylanders Academy. People are arguing over the fact that Crash Bandicoot has had an appearance in Skylanders Academy but instead of his zany, wacky, blabber mouth self, he speaks more fluently and is more worried about what's happening back at his home dimension.

A few people don't mind this change but a lot of people really hated this change. They kept saying "Crash Bandicoot shouldn't talk like that, he's suppose to be an idiot". Ummm..... have you forgotten that Homer Simpson, Goofy, Ed from Ed, Edd n Eddy, Pinkie Pie, Billy from Billy and Mandy, Fred Fredburger, Hulk from the Super Hero Squad Show, GIR from Invader Zim and many other idiot characters from the 90s and early 2000s were idiots and yet they were able to talk normally.

According to Eric Rogers, the guy who wrote for a couple of Futurama episodes, the TV creator of Skylanders Academy and voice of Crash Bandicoot in the show himself, he had a reason to make Crash Bandicoot voiced like that. You can look at it here: crashynews.wordpress.com/2016/…

Granted that's wasn't the best reason to voice Crash Bandicoot but I do have a theory why he was done this way. Video Games and TV shows have different rules and different standards. The reason why most idiot characters you see nowadays spoke well like Ed, Billy and GIR is because they have a motivation. If Crash talked like his game counterpart in a TV show, he would have no motivation and he will just come off as annoying. The silent character really only works for intelligent characters like Tom and Jerry, Oggy and the Cockroaches and the Pink Panther. Granted, Dopey and Gideon from the Disney movies were silent and idiots but they were side characters. Crash Bandicoot in that episode of Skylanders Academy was one of the main focuses. There's a character from a TV show I want you to take a look at named Mr Cool from Fonz and the Happy Days Gang. He talks the same way as Crash Bandicoot and he wasn't really the most beloved. In the video games, it works because video games don't always require dialogue to make a good gameplay. The first Crash game had the least amount of dialogue of all Crash games. Dr. Neo Cortex and Dr. Nitrus Brio only had a few lines.

My other theory for why Crash talks in the Academy show is that sometimes, when you go to an alternate dimension, you experience some alteration to your system. You could be smarter, have powers or have an unwanted mutation. Happened with Twilight Sparkle from my Little Pony: Friendship is Magic after stepping into the world of Equestria Girls.

Keep in mind, this isn't the only time Crash spoke fluently. There's also this commercial for Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back (www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1I71E… ).

Also, in the Academy TV series, it's not just Crash that had this type of character change. Some of the Skylanders had changes of their characters in the TV show compared to the games. Spyro in the Skylanders games is more of a selfless leader kinda like Optimus Prime (this is how I usually protray him in my animations). In the Academy series, he was more of a rebel and full of himself similar to Darkwing Duck (granted that might be a fraction of his personality used in the Classic Spyro games). Stealth Elf in the games is more patient and quiet and has the ability to become invisible. In the show, she's more energetic, fun loving and teleports instead. In the games, Eruptor is a simpleton with a lot of disgusting habits like barfing. In the show, he's easily angered (which is usually Fryno's shtick). As far as I know, Pop Fizz never once changed into his beast form in the TV show. Jet Vac on the other hand hasn't had much of a change from his game self (he even kept his voice actor).

If Crash's talking appearance in Skylanders Academy is such a big deal then why aren't Link's talking appearance in this show (www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPxY8l… ) and the Zelda CDI games (www.youtube.com/watch?v=TN8-Pd… ) or Donkey Kong's talking appearance in this show (www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEkUX4… ) a big deal as well?

Just be glad Crash Bandicoot has his usual personality in Crash of the Titans (which to some people is the worst because of his appearance and new gameplay) and Skylanders Imaginators. Do you want Crash to suffer another 8 years of hiatus. Sony is too busy to buy back the rights to Crash Bandicoot and Naughty Dog is putting their focus on Uncharted. Be glad Vicarious Visions (the same company behind Skylanders Swap Force, SuperChargers and the Crash Bandicoot gameplay of Imaginators) is doing the remastered N Sane Trilogy (which will have Crash in his original personality). After all, they did do Crash Nitro Kart which was the PS2 equivalent of Crash Team Racing. They also did the Gameboy Advanced Crash games as well (A Huge Adventure, N.Tranced and the Crash/Spyro fusion games).

Also be glad I don't make him speak much in my animations.

My version of the character does speak fluently, but does carry his bumbling foolishness and goofiness.
